2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. soda 1/2 tsp. cream tarter 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. shortening or 1 1/2 sticks oleo 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. brown sugar ( packed ) 1 egg 1/2 c. nuts

Sift flour once, add soda, cream of tartar and salt and sift again. Cream shortening thoroughly, add sugar gradually, and cream together until light. Add eggs, nuts and vanilla. Add flour gradually, mixing well.
Shape into rolls 1 1/2 in. in diameter, and roll in wax paper overnight or for a few hours until firm enough to slice. Cut in 1/8 in slices. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in hot oven ( 450 degrees) for 5 min. or until done.
